There are two fundamentally different ways to talk to an AI, and they produce two different machines. In question-and-answer posture, you ask, it answers, you correct, it answers again — and you stay the brains, doing all the synthesis while the model plays research assistant. In directive posture, you tell it what to do and hand it the judgment: “go research this, think about it, and propose the alternatives so I can decide.” Now it goes away, holds the whole problem, and comes back with structured options — it’s thinking, because you finally asked it to.
